Spain and Italy are two of Europe’s largest economies, and both have growing data centre markets anchored in their capitals and main business cities. For IT service companies and MSPs with customers in Southern Europe, the practical question is how to put reliable, English-reporting engineers on site without building a local team. This guide covers what to expect when you source IT field engineers in Spain and Italy through a white label partner.
For country summaries, see our IT field engineers in Spain and IT field engineers in Italy pages.
Spain: Madrid, Barcelona and beyond
Madrid
Madrid is Spain’s capital and its largest data centre market. Most of the major colocation and cloud operators in Spain have capacity in the Madrid region, and many corporate headquarters sit in the city centre and the business districts to the north. It is usually the first city on any Spanish service contract.
Barcelona
Barcelona is the second hub, with a strong technology, retail and logistics base and an important Mediterranean port. Catalan is co-official alongside Spanish in Catalonia, so signage and some site paperwork may be in Catalan.
Other Spanish cities
Regular field work also comes from Valencia, Seville, Bilbao, Málaga and Zaragoza. Spain’s high-speed rail network links Madrid with Barcelona, Seville, Valencia and Málaga, which makes travelling engineers a realistic option for planned work.
Italy: Milan, Rome and beyond
Milan
Milan is Italy’s financial and commercial centre and its main data centre hub. Most international operators building in Italy have chosen the Milan area first, so data centre smart hands and rack work are concentrated here.
Rome
Rome combines government, public sector and corporate offices, with a growing number of data centre facilities. Historic centre locations can make access and parking slow, so plan arrival times generously.
Other Italian cities
We also see steady demand in Turin, Bologna, Florence, Naples, Genoa and Verona. High-speed trains connect Milan, Bologna, Florence, Rome and Naples, which helps when one engineer covers several sites.
Local practicalities
Language
Spanish and Italian are the working languages on site. English is common in technology roles but less so with building managers, security desks and reception staff. A local engineer who can talk to site staff in their own language saves time on almost every visit. Reports back to your team are in English.
Time zone
Both countries are on Central European Time, one hour ahead of the UK all year. Live support from a UK NOC is simple to arrange.
Access and driving
Many Italian city centres have limited traffic zones (ZTL) that restrict vehicle entry, and fines are issued automatically by camera. Spanish city centres increasingly have low emission zones too. Engineers carrying kit need to know in advance where they can park and unload.
Seasonal patterns
August is the slowest month in both countries, with many businesses closed or short-staffed. Italy’s Ferragosto holiday on 15 August is a particular pinch point. Schedule large roll-outs and changes for other months where possible.
Parts and paperwork
Both countries are in the EU, so parts move freely from depots elsewhere in the bloc. Clear labelling with your ticket reference and a named site contact avoid most delivery problems.
Local or travelling engineers?
For reactive cover, a local engineer in each main city is almost always the right answer. Response targets of 4 hours or next business day depend on short travel times, and a Madrid or Milan engineer will know the access routines at the main data centres.
For planned projects, such as a refresh across 40 branches between Seville and Bilbao, a small travelling team can be more consistent. The same engineers follow the same runbook at every site, and quality is easier to check. Many programmes mix both: local engineers for break-fix, a travelling team for the roll-out.
Typical work we deliver
- IMAC and break-fix for end-user devices, printers and network kit
- Data centre smart hands in Madrid and Milan, through our smart hands and field engineering service
- Rack and stack, patching and cable tidying
- Store and branch roll-outs across many cities, planned under our multi-site roll-outs service
- Site surveys before installs, using a checklist like our IT site survey checklist
How we deliver
We have 2,000+ field engineers worldwide and 285 cities on our coverage map. Jobs are coordinated from London by a 24/7 service desk that responds in under 30 minutes all year. Our SLA attainment is 99.99% next business day, 98% 24-hour and 94% 4-hour; details are on our dispatch and SLAs page. Engineers work under your brand, follow your process and return photos and sign-off the same day.

Frequently asked questions
Which cities in Spain and Italy do you cover?
Our main hubs are Madrid, Barcelona, Milan and Rome. We also cover Valencia, Seville, Bilbao, Málaga, Turin, Bologna, Florence and Naples, with other locations scheduled with travel built in.
Do engineers in Spain and Italy speak English?
Engineers we send on partner work can report to your team in English. Site staff often prefer Spanish or Italian, which is one of the main reasons to use local engineers rather than flying someone in.
Can one partner cover both Spain and Italy?
Yes. We run both countries under one commercial agreement, one work order format and one escalation path, coordinated from our London desk.
When is the hardest time to schedule work in Spain and Italy?
August. Many businesses close or run on reduced staff for part of the month, so customer approvals and site access can be harder to arrange. Book large changes for other months where you can.
Other countries we cover: France, Germany, Switzerland, Netherlands, United Kingdom and UAE.
Need engineers in Spain and Italy?
Share your sites in Madrid, Barcelona, Milan, Rome or elsewhere, and we will confirm availability and send our partner rate card.
